Report: Derek Fisher an 'additional ally' for Phil Jackson to lure Kevin Durant to New York
The New York Knicks hired Derek Fisher as their new head coach for plenty of good reasons. He seems like he'll be a good coach, he's very intelligent, he's a hard worker, and he knows president Phil Jackson's systems and philosophies.
According to NBA insider/news guru Adrian Wojnarowski, however, Fisher was also hired for one other reason:
"Phil Jackson plans to aggressively pursue Kevin Durant when he becomes a FA in 2016. Fisher gives him an additional ally"- @WojYahooNBA

Is this crazy talk? Would a teammate of two-and-a-half seasons really help lure Kevin Durant to New York? Well, having one additional "ally" wouldn't hurt, we suppose, but it could be a risky long-term plan.
It would also mean the Knicks have to be very careful with how they manage their books over the next few seasons - they have only a $2.28 million option on Tim Hardaway Jr. on the books for the summer of 2016, but they need to sign players before then and could be free agent players in 2015.
It might be a long shot, and it'd be foolhardy for this to be the entire end game, but as a tiebreaker between candidates? Sure, cool.
