Report: Shane Battier has signed multi-year TV deal with ESPN to be a college basketball analyst

While Shane Battier still has an NBA Finals to get through, he already has plans in place for after the season when, barring "an act of God," he will retire from active play.

No, Battier won't be running for Senate in Michigan, as some reportedly hoped. Instead, Battier is set to join a pair of other Duke alum in Jay Williams and Jay Bilas as a member of ESPN's College Gameday.

This comes via a report from The Big Lead:

Shane Battier, who said two months ago that he would be retiring after this NBA season barring an “act of God,” has agreed to a multi-year TV deal with ESPN to be a college basketball analyst next season, multiple sources have told The Big Lead.

It’s unclear yet if ESPN will use Battier, 35, as a game analyst, in the studio, or on the set of College Gameday, which is being revamped. Battier’s agent, Jim Ornstein, didn’t return a call today seeking comment. ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said the network had “no comment.” The deal isn’t expected to be announced until after the Finals are complete.

Obviously, Battier and ESPN would like to keep this quiet until after the finals so there's no distraction.

It's great to hear that Battier, an endlessly likeable interview, will remain in the public basketball consciousness after 13 NBA seasons.
