Coyotes GM Maloney on Max Domi: 'He’ll get a real, long look' in training camp

Phoenix Coyotes prospect Max Domi scored 34 goals and added 59 assists for the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights after being selected 12th overall in 2013, and it appears he could make the jump to the NHL as early as next season.

“He’ll get a real, long look,” Phoenix Coyotes general manager Don Maloney told Sportsnet 590 The Fan Thursday. “Max is strong, talented; we’re going to need talent in our lineup. He’ll get a long look [in training camp] in September.”

“We’ve got some work to do,” Maloney added, after Phoenix finished two points out of a playoff spot. “We have to turn our roster over a little bit. We plan to open up some positions for some younger people that bring more energy. I felt the speed of our team this year was lacking.”

The 19-year-old added four goals and six assists in nine playoff games for London, and recorded two assists in three games at the Memorial Cup, in what was an early and disappointing exit for the host Knights.

The Coyotes scored 210 goals during the 2013-14 regular season, good for just 20th in the NHL. Domi's skill set could prove to be a valuable asset for an offense-challenged team looking to return to the postseason.
