With Formula One aiming to become environmentally friendly, and teams producing hybrid engines, the legendary noise and oomph of the cars is almost non-existent compared to previous years.

In attempt to recreate the legendary engine sound which attracts numerous Formula One fans, Mercedes created a "megaphone" or "trumpet" exhaust which was tested by its drivers in Barcelona.

Following its testing, Nico Rosberg admitted that the new exhausts didn't provide an improvement to the new quieter engines.

"Just tried the new exhaust system, but it didn't work out. It didn't make it much louder. We are pushing for a new solution," Rosberg stated via The Telegraph

The controversy about the cars' quieter engines is becoming more prevalent than expected, as Formula One's governing body, FIA, was sent to Barcelona in order to determine if the "megaphone" or "trumpet" exhaust provided a difference, but FIA president Jean Todt expects the controversy to die down:

It is a question of taste. I don't have any problem with the noise, but I need to take it into account if a lot of people say they want more noise. But believe me, in a few months' time, nobody will speak any more about the noise. We will have sound something else.
