Jerry Stackhouse throws hat in the ring for Knicks coaching position

With multiple suitors emerging for Steve Kerr, Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks suddenly find themselves with competition for the broadcaster's inexperienced coaching services.

The Knicks have been fairly quiet in their search for a coach so far, with only Kerr emerging as a likely candidate. Now, however, Jackson may need to cast a wider net to find a suitable replacement for Mike Woodson, assuming Golden State's or Utah's interest in Kerr is mutual.

Consider 18-year NBA veteran Jerry Stackhouse as someone who would be interested.

Stackhouse told The Anthony Donahue Show on Monday that "I'd love to coach," and that he thinks a jump right to the pros, without any high school or college experience, is the right move.

"The pro level is where I think I'd be best," the former 76er, Piston, Wizard, Maverick, Buck, Heat, Hawk and Net said. "I know what I didn't want to play against so I think I'm a better defensive coach than an offensive coach."

He also indicated that he expects to meet with Jackson sometime soon, perhaps this week.

Apparently, the Knicks love them some coaches with career 0-0 records.
