Richard Sherman announced Wednesday that he has reached a deal with the Seattle Seahawks on a four-year, $57.4-million contract extension, including $40 million in guaranteed money.

As Jay Glazer of FOX Sports first reported, the deal makes Sherman the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.

"The goal has always been to stay in Seattle and continue to play for the Seahawks," Sherman wrote on his official website. "With this chapter closed, I can continue to focus on what is important – defending our Super Bowl Championship and being the best cornerback in the NFL."

The Seahawks made the extension official during a 2 p.m. ET press conference.

Sherman, who is due $1.389 million in 2014, will earn $14.35 million per season under the new deal, surpassing the $12 million salary the New England Patriots will pay Darrelle Revis in 2014.
