VIDEO: Rangers' Girardi opens the scoring in Game 2 with unfortunate own goal

New York Rangers defender Dan Girardi is among the league's most reliable blue-liners when it comes to playing without the puck. Even the best defenseman, however, occasionally get victimized by the dread own goal.

Girardi, for example, attempted to breakup a cross crease pass from Penguins defender Kris Letang to Penguins forward Chris Kunitz in the second period of Sunday night's Game 2; but instead deflected the puck past Henrik Lundqvist to open the scoring:

The sequence was somewhat embarrassing for the Rangers, beyond the whole "own goal" thing, since it was the second time in less than 30 seconds that the Penguins managed to execute the same breakout set play. Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was stoned by Lundqvist on literally the exact same passing play just :22 seconds before the opening goal.

While Girardi put the puck past Ludnqvist, the goal was initially credited to Kunitz - who clearly didn't touch the puck. Letang was ultimately credited with the tally.
