Commissioner Adam Silver: 'No expectation' players will opt out of CBA in 2017

Since taking over as NBA commissioner in February, Adam Silver has expressed an openness to change or, at least, an openness to considering change.

However, major changes generally have to be collectively bargained, and the collective bargaining agreement between the league and the players association doesn't expire until 2021. Either side can opt out after 2017, though, creating a potential window for change (although it should be noted that changes don't have to come outside of an existing agreement).

On Thursday, Silver expressed some doubt that the players will opt out, saying he has "no expectation" that they'll do so and that it's "premature" for either side to be evaluating the current CBA after just three years.

It's unclear which changes Silver may try to push through ahead of the next bargaining window, but here are some of the issues he's said he's open to considering:

• Ads on jerseys
• Ditching sleeved jerseys
• The age minimum and potential compensation for college athletes
• Playoff seeding format
• Division and conference alignments
• The draft lottery
