Bulls' Rose has torn meniscus in right knee, requires surgery

The unthinkable has happened in Chicago.

After limping off the court during the Bulls' game versus the Trail Blazers on Friday night, MRI results confirmed the worst.

It's the second major knee surgery in six NBA seasons for Rose, although the first instance in April 2012 saw the guard tear the ACL in his left knee. He missed all of the 2012-13 season.

Rose is out indefinitely and will not accompany the team on the rest of its road trip, according the team's official injury update.

Chicago seems to have zero luck when it comes to using their top draft pick on a point guard.

Jay Williams, a national champion at Duke, was selected second overall by the Bulls in 2002, and similarly to Rose, was expected to be the face of the franchise for the considerable future. But a near-fatal motorcycle accident destroyed his leg and tragically ended his NBA career after only one season.

The Chicago Tribune's K.C. Johnson reports Rose will undergo surgery in Chicago and whether or not the guard will be out for the season will be determined post-op.
