Report: Bucks plan to waive, stretch Hawes' contract

The Milwaukee Bucks will reportedly waive center Spencer Hawes, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Bucks had until midnight Eastern Time on Aug. 31 to utilise the CBA's stretch provision, which allows Hawes' remaining $6 million in salary to be spread over the next two seasons. The move effectively lowers Milwaukee's salary outlook for 2017-18, dropping them just below next season's estimated $119.3 million luxury tax threshold.

Hawes signed a four-year, $22.6-million contract with the Los Angeles Clippers prior to the 2014-15 season. Through three seasons split between the Clippers, Hornets, and Bucks, the 29-year-old big man averaged six points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game as a deep-bench stretch big.
