Jose Mourinho has identified Alvaro Morata as the perfect complement for Antoine Griezmann, according to The Telegraph's Matt Law, as the Portuguese manager draws up Manchester United's lavish plans for the summer transfer window.

Griezmann has long been considered United's primary objective in the months ahead, with a £300,000-a-week contract reportedly on the table. Whether Mourinho's men can qualify for next season's Champions League is a variable that could sway Griezmann, but it's apparent at Old Trafford that United's ambition and spending power remain at a high.

Unlike Griezmann, whose release clause reportedly stands at £85 million, Morata would cost around £40 million, according to Law.

A devastating knee injury to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, along with the probability of Wayne Rooney ending his 13-year association with the club, has created ripe conditions for a rebuild in attack.

Mourinho's effusive praise for Marcus Rashford suggests the 19-year-old is firmly in his plans, and Law reports the 54-year-old is "excited" at the prospect of Morata, Griezmann, and the young England international sharing the pitch.

Mourinho gave an 18-year-old Morata his debut in 2010 when the two worked together in the Spanish capital.

The Spain international had been linked with a move to Chelsea several times over the past year, but Law and colleague Sam Wallace reported last month that the Blues have "cooled" interest in the 24-year-old in favour of signing Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.

Morata is currently struggling for regular playing time at Real Madrid, but he's still managed to score 18 goals across all competitions. Only Cristiano Ronaldo (31) has more for Los Blancos.
