Poulter to lose tour card, remains optimistic

Ian Poulter is set to miss the cut at the Texas Open, which means he won't have PGA Tour status for the rest of the season.

Poulter shot 75 on Thursday, and could only manage a 1-under-par 71 on Friday to finish 2-over for the tournament. Still, the Englishman isn't losing hope.

"You know, it's not all bad. I'm healthy, I'm playing golf, I'm still going to be able to play golf," Poulter told the Golf Channel after his round. "You know, I have opportunity to have sponsor invitations. I always have this 125, 150 category. I also have some events I can play in Europe."

The two-time PGA winner had been playing on a medical exemption, under which he needed to win $347,634 in the 10 events granted to him, but he came up $30,624 short of the target.

"So you know, obviously questions have been coming thick and fast and I think it's been slightly overdramatized," he said. "Obviously, I'd love to have finished up and got it done this week. However, that hasn't happened."

Poulter may no long have full PGA Tour status, but he's also not taking next week off, instead teaming up with Geoff Ogilvy in the new Zurich Classic.

"Who knows. Golf is a funny game. We could easily go out and win with Geoff and things are a little different," Poulter said.
