Report: Rams still working on long-term extension for Johnson

Jeff Curry / USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Rams are continuing to work on a long-term extension for cornerback Trumaine Johnson ahead of the July 15 deadline, ESPN's Alden Gonzalez reports.

Johnson received the franchise tag for the second consecutive year and signed the tender in March.

The Rams also haven't ruled out the possibility of trading Johnson, Gonzalez reports.

Johnson recorded 57 tackles, 11 pass deflections, and an interception in 14 games last season.

The 27-year-old is still in the prime of his career and, despite a statistical drop-off from his breakout 2015 campaign, remains a genuine No. 1 cornerback.
