Dustin Johnson's agent, David Winkle, said his client will attempt to make his return to the tour at the Wells Fargo Championship in early May, according to Rex Hoggard of the Golf Channel.

The world No. 1 player had to withdraw from this week's Masters after he slipped in his rental home Wednesday evening, injuring his lower back in the process.

Winkle also indicated Johnson may have been able to play in the 81st Masters Tournament if the weather was warmer.

Johnson has only played in the Wells Fargo Championship three times in his career, with his best finish being a tie for 29th in 2010.

The event in North Carolina is traditionally held at the Quail Hallow Club, but because the course is hosting the 2017 PGA Championship, the tournament will be staged at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, N.C.
