Report: Lawler vs. Cerrone a 'done deal' for UFC 213

Fight fans will be in for guaranteed fireworks this summer, as a welterweight matchup between former champion Robbie Lawler and perennial contender Donald Cerrone is a "done deal for July 8 at UFC 213 in Las Vegas," president Dana White reportedly told ESPN's Brett Okamoto.

Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting subsequently claimed Lawler has yet to meet Cerrone halfway and sign on the dotted line, but ruled the matchup "probable."

The pair were originally slated to clash at UFC 205 in New York City this past November, only for Lawler to pull out and Cerrone to be removed from the card after fill-in foe Kelvin Gastelum failed to make weight a day prior.

In his most recent outing, Lawler lost the 170-pound title to Tyron Woodley by first-round KO at UFC 201 following a quartet of five-round wars, hence his subsequent inactivity. The Strikeforce import takes a promotional record of 8-2 into the July contest.

"Cowboy," on the other hand, has been anything but idle, making three trips to the Octagon between August 2016 and January of this year. After capping this past year with a third-round KO of Matt Brown at UFC 206, the 34-year-old was handed a near-identical fate by Jorge Masvidal in his last outing at UFC on FOX 23 in his native Denver. The spoiled homecoming snapped a four-fight win streak and marked Cerrone's first loss since moving up from lightweight the previous February.

The pay-per-view marks the third and final event of International Fight Week, a three-day extravaganza also featuring a UFC Fight Night and the "TUF: Redemption" finale. The promotion has yet to formally announce any bouts for the trio of events.
