Drew Smyly is set to visit a team doctor Wednesday to diagnose a "soggy" arm after complaining of a recent bullpen session, Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais told Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times.

Due to the discomfort, Smyly was also preemptively scratched from a planned start on Friday, Divish adds, though Servais refrained from any further specifics regarding the ailment.

"At this time of spring, you're always concerned," Servais told The News Tribune's Bob Dutton. "We're getting close to opening day. I don't want to rush to judgments or anything like that. We'll wait and see what the doc says and go from there."

Brought over from the Tampa Bay Rays in January, Smyly joined the United States for the World Baseball Classic and started against Venezuela in the second round, pitching 4 2/3 innings, while striking out eight and allowing just three hits.

Smyly is expected to round out the bottom half of the Mariners' rotation for the upcoming season. The left-hander posted a 4.88 ERA with the Rays last season in 175 1/3 innings.
