Report: Rockies agree to minor-league deal with Hanigan

The Colorado Rockies reportedly beefed up their depth behind the plate Tuesday, agreeing to a minor-league deal with veteran catcher Ryan Hanigan, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Hanigan, who turns 37 in August, signed a minor-league deal with the Philadelphia Phillies in January, but was released Monday despite authoring an impressive spring in which he hit .389/.538/.444 with one double and seven walks in nine Grapefruit League games.

A 10-year veteran, Hanigan spent the last two seasons with the Boston Red Sox, putting up a meager .592 OPS in 89 games while primarily backing up Blake Swihart and Sandy Leon. In 2016, Hanigan endured the worst offensive season of his career, hitting just .171/.230/.238 in 35 games with the American League East champions.
