Legends of Liverpool and Real Madrid competed at Anfield on Saturday in aid of the former club's official charity, and it resulted in a 4-3 win for the home side.

Here are the best pictures from the showpiece on Merseyside:

The greats of both teams pay their respects to late Liverpool captain and coach Ronnie Moran before kick-off.

Proper football royalty was present in Luis Figo.

God is omnipresent or, on Merseyside this Saturday, weirdly cropping up on the left flank. Former striker Robbie Fowler waddles down the wing before converting a second-half penalty.

Probably a little hungry, Roberto Carlos gives John Arne Riise a lovebite. The portly Brazilian put his shrunken neck on the line for 18 minutes before being substituted for Jose Emilio Amavisca.

Michel Salgado, who was a menace down the right, charges after Steven Gerrard.

Questionable pundit Michael Owen, a man who represented both clubs but was never in danger of being called into Real Madrid's legendary throng, celebrates his headed opener with Gerrard and Steve McManaman.

Like Jerzy Dudek, McManaman played for both sides. He shares a laugh with John Aldridge, who scored Liverpool's second.

Jamie Carragher will be hoping Sky Sports desk partner Gary Neville won't be analysing his efforts at the back.

Dietmar Hamann (right), who was instrumental in Liverpool's famous 2005 Champions League final defeat of AC Milan, is replaced by Gary McAllister, who was similarly pivotal in the 2001 UEFA Cup triumph against CD Alaves.

Gerrard finally got his goal after 78 minutes when he netted following a neat lob and finish.

A late rally from Real Madrid wasn't enough, and the Liverpool oldies took the tie with a 4-3 scoreline. Gerrard swapped shirts after the final whistle.
