The Dallas Cowboys have signed free-agent offensive tackle Byron Bell to a one-year contract, according to team writer David Helman.

Bell signed after visiting with the team Friday.

The 28-year-old fills a hole left on the depth chart by right tackle Doug Free, who retired this offseason, though there is no guarantee Bell will win a starting job over La'el Collins or Chaz Green.

Bell missed the entire 2016 season with an ankle injury, but started all 16 games for the Tennessee Titans in 2015 and spent four seasons as a regular starter for the Carolina Panthers between 2011 and 2014.
