Report: Patriots likely landing spot for Revis

Free-agent corner Darrelle Revis appears to have the interest of at least one club, and it's a familiar destination.

A number of league sources believe that if Revis returns for the 2017 season, he will do so with the New England Patriots, reports Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Revis had a successful one-season stint with New England in 2014. That year, the Patriots won the Super Bowl over the Seattle Seahawks. The Patriots had only signed Revis to a one-year, $12-million contract and declined a $20-million option for 2015, so the shutdown corner went on to re-sign with the New York Jets in free agency.

Revis' play declined sharply in 2016, as he recorded but one interception and was routinely beaten by opposing receivers. One executive expressed to La Canfora confidence in Revis' ability to rebound.

"We did our work on him. He can still play. He can cover," the unnamed team executive said. "He doesn't have that long speed anymore; he's not going to cover a No. 1 receiver deep. But he can cover in tight spaces and he has great instincts."

The Patriots signed free-agent cornerback Stephon Gilmore at the onset of free agency, but allowed Logan Ryan to depart and are likely to lose Malcolm Butler, perhaps to the New Orleans Saints.

In 16 games playing for Bill Belichick in 2014, Revis recorded 47 tackles, 14 pass breakups, and two interceptions.
