Nation's top recruit Michael Porter Jr. commits to Missouri

The nation's top recruit is following his father to the SEC as Michael Porter Jr. announced he's committed to Missouri, just one day after the school hired Michael Sr. as an assistant coach.

"Last week everything changed for me regarding my college basketball decision," Porter wrote on Twitter. "Realizing I would no longer have the opportunity to play for Coach (Lorenzo) Romar, I've taken the past seven days to give great consideration to my future. After a lot of thought, prayer, and talking with my family, I'm excited to announce that next year I will be attending the University of Missouri."

The 6-foot-10, 212-pounder was committed to Romar and Washington but asked for his release after the school dismissed the longtime coach last week. His father served as an assistant on the Huskies' staff and was also let go when Romar was dismissed.

The elder Porter was hired by new Missouri coach Cuonzo Martin earlier in the week, basically confirming that the No. 1 recruit in the country would be joining a program that went a dismal 8-24 this season.

Porter's younger brother Jontay also decommitted from the Huskies after Romar's firing, so it wouldn't be shocking to see him follow the rest of his family to Missouri as well.
