Report: Redskins to meet with Tim Hightower

Dale Zanine / USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Redskins are hosting veteran running back Tim Hightower on a free-agent visit Wednesday, ESPN's Mike Triplett reports, citing a source.

Hightower played the 2011 season in Washington before suffering a torn ACL and subsequently spending the next few years out of football.

He eventually returned and joined the New Orleans Saints in 2015, though, going on to run for 923 yards and eight touchdowns in 24 games over the last two seasons.

The 30-year-old, who can almost certainly be had for an inexpensive, short-term deal, would provide some much-needed depth and competition in the Redskins' backfield.

As things currently stand, the Redskins' running back group includes Rob Kelley, Chris Thompson, Matt Jones, and Keith Marshall.
