New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees reiterated that he won't be concerned about a prospective contract extension until the end of the 2017 season.

Brees is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2018 season, although he's scheduled to be paid through 2020.

"I'm trying to put the (contract) conversation to bed just by saying ... we can worry about it at the end of the year. I think that's what's in the best interest of the team. It's what's in my best interest. It's in the best interest of everybody," Brees said Friday, according to ESPN's Mike Triplett.

Brees stated he wouldn't be upset if the Saints used one of their two first-round picks on a quarterback but noted that he wants the team to select a player that would contribute immediately.

The 10-time Pro Bowler led the league in passing yards for the third consecutive season, the seventh time he's topped the NFL over the course of his career.

Brees is aiming to play until he's 45, although he stated that he would leave the league on his volition.

"Now I want to go out on my terms. I might play till I'm 45, but I'm not gonna sit here and sell you something that I don't know to be the case. I just want to play at a high level. I want to help us win a championship."

With no end in sight to his decorated career, an imminent extension for Brees remains atop the Saints' list of priorities.
