Report: Prescott led offensive players with $353K in performance-based pay

A sensational rookie season paid off in a big way for Dak Prescott.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback led all offensive players with a bonus of $353,544.57 when the league handed out its performance-based pay for the 2016 season, ESPN's Field Yates reports, citing a source.

Such bonuses, coming from a pool distributed evenly among the league's 32 teams, are handed out to players depending on how their playing time relates to their compensation.

Prescott played every regular-season game while earning just $545,848 under the terms of his contract as a fourth-round rookie, which made him a likely candidate to lead the league in this regard.

And if his first taste of NFL action is a sign of things to come, the 23-year-old will remain one of the league's biggest bargains for at least the next two seasons. He and the Cowboys can, and likely will, open negotiations for what figures to be a lucrative long-term contract at any point thereafter.

Prescott completed 67.8 percent of his passes for 3,667 yards, 23 touchdowns, and just four interceptions in emerging as a potential franchise quarterback and effectively sealing the end of the Tony Romo era in Dallas.

Speaking of Romo, the veteran signal-caller is taking home a little extra cash of his own after getting onto the field for one series to close out the regular season.
