5 free agents getting surprisingly little interest

NFL free agency has been open for almost a week, and while things have seemed to quiet down around the league, there are still plenty of options for teams looking to make a splash.

Here are five players available to sign who, despite being seeded highly on pre-free-agency rankings, reportedly haven't received much interest:

Johnathan Hankins, DT

Hankins was an important part of the Giants' top-notch defensive line that helped bring Big Blue back to the playoffs for the first time since 2011. He's a quality run-stopper who got to learn from one of the best in New York's Damon Harrison, and has plenty left in the tank at age 24.

The 2013 second-round pick reportedly has yet to go on a free-agent visit, and doesn't appear to have garnered significant interest from any team in the defensive tackle market. He may have to wait until fellow run-stuffer Dontari Poe signs before his market increases, but the four-year pro is one of the few impact defenders available.

Teams that should pick up the phone: Titans, Raiders, Colts, Packers

Colin Kaepernick, QB

No one was calling for Kaepernick to be a franchise quarterback next season, but his story really seemed to turn around toward the end of 2016. Kaepernick has shown he has rare athletic talents throughout his career, but he dispelled notions that he's a poor leader by winning over the 49ers locker room amid a season of disappointing results and political tension.

There's a good chance that teams are hoping to stay away from the political storylines that will inevitably follow him, though that could be a decent cover for a team whose alternative narratives center on their lack of talent.

Teams who should pick up the phone: Browns, Jets, Bears

Morris Claiborne, CB

Before going down with a groin injury last season, Claiborne was enjoying the best year of his career after previously disappointing as a sixth overall pick for the Cowboys.

The 27-year-old isn't expected to come in as a No. 1 cornerback, but his natural talent and recent resurgence make him an attractive addition in a league that can never have enough good defensive backs. The Ravens have recently become a reported suitor of Claiborne, though it's curious why things took so long to heat up.

Michael Floyd, WR

Receivers were a hot commodity early in free agency, with most of the big names flying off the board by Thursday. Having finished his season as a healthy scratch for the Patriots, Floyd wasn't exactly a top free agent, but he does have value.

He entered the 2016 campaign with expectations of making big money in free agency after producing a solid body of work though his first four years. A December DUI arrest capped off an underachieving season with the Cardinals for Floyd, and that's apparently dried up the market for the former 13th overall pick.

Teams who should pick up the phone: 49ers, Titans, Bengals, Vikings, Chiefs

Mario Williams, DE

Things dropped off in a hurry for Super Mario over the past two seasons. The 2006 first overall pick dropped to five sacks in 2015, but chalked it up to a bad scheme fit.

After a second straight disappointing season, this time producing just one-and-a-half sacks for the Dolphins, no one seems interested in acquiring the 32-year-old's abilities on a cheap deal, despite an overall lack of edge rushers on the market.
