Report: Eagles offered Jenkins, 2 picks to Saints for Cooks

Maybe the New England Patriots' offer wasn't so bad after all.

Prior to making a swap with the Patriots on Friday, the New Orleans Saints were offered safety Malcolm Jenkins, a third-round pick, and a fourth-rounder by the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for receiver Brandin Cooks, a source told Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.

New Orleans wanted Jenkins and a second-round pick for Cooks, adds Florio.

The Saints ended up receiving the Patriots' 32nd overall and 103rd overall picks for Cooks, along with their fourth-round selection. The move received a lot of criticism after the Saints had reportedly asked for at least a mid-first round pick, but doesn't look bad in comparison to the Eagles' offer.

Receiving Jenkins in the trade would have been hard to swallow for the Saints, which let the 29-year-old leave in 2014 through free agency. Jenkins was drafted 14th overall by New Orleans in 2009, won a Super Bowl with the Saints, and had been named a team captain prior to his departure.

Depending on the timing of the offer, the Eagles may not have had a ton of motivation to acquire Cooks after signing receivers Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith to new contracts on Thursday.
