Josh Jackson's lawyer allegedly offered restitution for vandalism

The vandalism case involving star Kansas forward Josh Jackson is getting messier.

Tim Calvert, the father of Jayhawks women's basketball player McKenzie Calvert, has alleged that Jackson's lawyer attempted to pay off the family in return for dropping the charge of misdemeanor property damage, according to Laura Bauer of The Kansas City Star.

Tim asserts the family didn't take the offer because money wasn't his top priority in the matter.

"They wanted to pay to make it all go away," Tim said. "But it wouldn't have gone away for my daughter. It would have been great for Josh, but not for McKenzie ... This was never about money for me, it was about how my daughter was treated."

Tim also alleges that the lawyer stated "money is no object, within reason" in regards to the settlement offer.

The vandalism in question occurred Dec. 9, when Jackson allegedly kicked McKenzie's car while she sat in the driver's seat, causing a small amount of damage. Previously, McKenzie had thrown a drink inside the Yacht Club bar at Jackson's teammate, Lagerald Vick, who McKenzie previously dated.

Jackson stated following the incident that he wished to pay for the damage, but Tim told his lawyer that insurance covered all the damage, aside from his $250 deductible.

"He's making it seem like he offered an immediate deep apology and wanted to pay for things and take care of things, and they did not," Tim Calvert said. "No one contacted us before Feb. 4 ... They didn't say, 'How can we pay the auto shop for your car repair?' It wasn't that innocent."

Jackson served a one-game suspension during Kansas' loss to TCU in the Big 12 tournament for an unrelated traffic offense.
