Report: Cowboys expect to trade Romo to Broncos or Texans
The Dallas Cowboys now expect to trade quarterback Tony Romo to either the Denver Broncos or Houston Texans, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports, citing a source.
As a result, the Broncos are in talks with the New York Jets about a deal involving their 2016 starter Trevor Siemian, Mortensen adds.
It was reported Wednesday that the Cowboys would release Romo, presumably after failing to find a trade partner or come to a compromise on the veteran's contract. The Cowboys are keeping their phone lines open, however.
The Broncos have been a long-rumored destination for Romo. They previously brought in a veteran free-agent quarterback - Peyton Manning in 2012 - and opened a four-year championship window. With a top-five defense in tow, Denver could opt to make a similar move this offseason.
The Texans traded their quarterback, Brock Osweiler, to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday after he disappointed in his first go-round as an unquestioned starter.
Finally, the Jets are in the market for a new quarterback after cutting ties with two-year starter Ryan Fitzpatrick.
