Eagles release veteran Barwin

The Philadelphia Eagles have released defensive end Connor Barwin, the team announced on Thursday.

ESPN's Adam Caplan reports the team attempted to find a trade partner for the pass-rusher, but instead chose to give him his release on the first day of free agency.

Barwin spent the past four seasons of his eight-year career in Philadelphia. He peaked in 2014 with 14.5 sacks and followed that with seasons of seven and five sacks.

Barwin did not miss a game with the Eagles.

He'll now lump into the upper tier of available defensive ends.
