Shaq wonders if Biggie would've been shot if he was by the car
Twenty years after the shooting death of Notorious B.I.G., there's still one thing about that night that weighs heavily on Shaquille O'Neal's mind.
Biggie was killed in the early hours of March 9, 1997, following a Soul Train Music Awards after-party hosted by VIBE magazine. O'Neal, who was playing for the Los Angeles Lakers at the time, told Justin Tinsley of The Undefeated he planned to attend the party, but ended up sleeping through it.
He can't help but wonder what might have happened had he been there.
"I don't say I could've prevented it. I was just saying ... if I was out there by the car, would they still have fired?" O'Neal said. "That's the only thing I would say to myself. I don't wanna make it seem like I could've saved him. I don't wanna make it seem like if I was there, the shooters wouldn't have shot. If I was there by the truck, after we all left and I'm dapping him up, would they still have shot?"
