Here are the fantasy implications of free-agent QB Brian Hoyer signing with the San Francisco 49ers:

Hoyer, who'll turn 32 in October, will suit up for his fourth team in as many years. A victim of tough luck, he was able to start just five games for the Chicago Bears in 2016, in place of injured QB Jay Cutler before suffering an injury of his own last season. He had opportunities to begin the season as the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans, before injuries cut those tenures short.

His most productive season came with the Browns in 2014, when he completed 55.3 percent of his 438 attempts for 3,326 yards and 12 touchdowns, but he threw 13 interceptions and lost two fumbles. He'll be reunited with 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, who was his offensive coordinator during his most successful year.

The 49ers began the offseason with zero quarterbacks under contract, making Hoyer their most likely Week 1 starter. They are expected to either draft or sign a quarterback to provide competition, but Hoyer's experience in the league and with Shanahan's system should at least allow him to start Week 1.

San Francisco's wide receiver corps leaves plenty to be desired. WR Pierre Garcon, who was signed Wednesday, leads a group of recently-signed Marquise Goodwin, and returning Bruce Ellington, Aaron Burbridge and Eric Rogers.

The 49ers will need to make some more additions to their passing game in order for Hoyer to gain any sort of relevance in standard leagues, but as a starting quarterback, he will have value in 2QB leagues.

His moderate success in Chicago last season came without the services of WR Alshon Jeffery. He had only three and a half games with WR Josh Gordon during his 2014 run with the Browns. The offense will be extremely pass heavy as they project to play with negative game scripts.

Hoyer can be viewed as QB20, with the chance to rise should the 49ers make some more additions.
