Agent: Pagan has received several offers, but looking for 'right fit'
As free-agent outfielder Angel Pagan readies for Puerto Rico's first game of the World Baseball Classic on March 10, he's still without a major-league job, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been interest.
Pagan's agent, Greg Genske, said his client received several offseason offers, but hasn't found "the right fit," he told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
The offers were all minor-league deals, according to MLB.com's Chris Haft.
"I just don't feel I need to be fighting for a job ... If a team wants me to help a team win, they know I can help them win," Pagan explained to Haft.
"Because I've been in that situation. I'm a winning player. I'm healthy. They'll see it in the (World) Baseball Classic," he said.
The 35-year-old veteran has reportedly drawn interest from the Washington Nationals, and most recently the Toronto Blue Jays.
Pagan was very reliable defensively for the New York Mets in 2009-10, posting a combined plus-36 in defensive runs saved, but he's failed to replicate those numbers since.
In 2016, however, he posted a minus-6 in defensive runs saved, was a positive 3.6 in UZR, and had a .975 fielding percentage, playing mostly in left field for the San Francisco Giants.
Pagan's contract with the Giants - where he spent the last five seasons - ended at the conclusion of 2016 with him hitting .277/.331/.418 with 12 home runs and 55 RBIs in 129 games.
Over his 11-year career, Pagan owns a .280/.330/.408 slash line with 64 home runs, and 414 RBIs, while owning a .738 OPS.
He earned $11.25 million last season.
