Report: Bucs offered deal to Glennon to make him highest-paid backup

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers offered Mike Glennon a contract that would've made him the highest-paid backup quarterback in the league, sources told ESPN's Adam Caplan.

However, Glennon turned down the deal because he wants to be a starter and intends to test free agency this offseason, reports Caplan.

The deal exceeded the $7 million per year earned by Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Chase Daniel.

Glennon has spent the last two seasons behind Jameis Winston, but had 18 starts over the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

The 27-year-old is reportedly expected to command a deal between $14-$15 million on the open market, so it makes sense that he turned down the Bucs' offer, especially because several teams are in need of a starter.
