Saints listening to offers for Cooks, won't trade without substantial return
As teams have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring receiver Brandin Cooks from the New Orleans Saints, head coach Sean Payton maintains that while Cooks is not on the trading block, the team is entertaining trade offers, according to Larry Holder of NOLA.com.
Payton said the deal would have to be substantial for the club to accept an offer.
"I wouldn't say he's on the trade block but certainly when a team calls, a team that's looking for a receiver - and we're looking to improve our defense - we're always listening," Payton told the team website. "I know (General Manager) Mickey (Loomis) has probably spoken to a handful of GMs or presidents with other teams, but right now I'm comfortable, we're comfortable with (Cooks) in a Saints uniform.
"We think the world of him and his skill set. (Compensation for Cooks) would have to be something real significant."
Cooks posted a career-best 1,173 receiving yards on 78 catches with eight touchdowns, but reportedly was unhappy with his use in the Saints' offense this season. Cooks has one more year left on his rookie deal, plus a fifth-year option that can be picked up.
As a former 20th overall draft selection in 2014, the starting price to acquire Cooks would likely be a first-round pick. The Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly interested in trading for Cooks; the Titans currently hold two first-round picks in this year's draft.
