Stanford expects Chryst to be ready for fall camp

Stanford is optimistic that quarterback Keller Chryst, who suffered a significant knee injury in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 30, will be ready for fall camp.

"Keller is right on schedule to be back full-go for training camp," head coach David Shaw said Thursday, according to ESPN's David Lombardi. "Hopefully, we won't have any setbacks between now and then."

Though his official injury diagnosis was never publicly revealed by the school, reports at the time of the injury indicated Chryst had a torn ACL. He was reportedly set to miss at least six months, but a torn ACL often takes up to a year to recover from.

Chryst threw for 905 yards with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions in 2016, finishing the season as the starter after replacing an ineffective Ryan Burns. If medically cleared, Chryst will battle Burns, K.J. Costello, and four-star signee Davis Mills for the Cardinal's starting job.

"We won't rush it," Shaw added. "If he's not 100 percent at the beginning of training camp, that's fine. We're not going to hit the panic button. He's doing really well. As of right now, we're gearing toward him participating relatively early, if not day one of training camp."

Chryst will be a senior in 2017, but is eligible through the 2018 campaign since he didn't play in his first season.
