Denis Hamlett has been appointed as the new sporting director at the New York Red Bulls, and will assume the post immediately.

The Costa Rican has over 20 years of coaching experience, notably assisting Jesse Marsch in Harrison, N.J., between 2015-16, and overseeing the Chicago Fire to back-to-back Eastern Conference finals as head coach in 2007 and 2008.

"Denis has vast experience in Major League Soccer and an excellent understanding of our global philosophy," Oliver Mintzlaff, Head of Global Soccer, told the club website. "We are confident that Denis has the vision to further our goal of winning MLS Cup."

Hamlett will preside over all aspects of the Red Bulls' sporting operations, including managing transfer dealings, organizing scouting and support staff, and being in charge of the soccer operations budget. He'll also supervise the development teams of New York Red Bulls II and the Under-23 team, and the Red Bulls Academy.
