Belgian side Gent is off to the Europa League last-16 after De Buffalo stunned Tottenham Thursday at Wembley Stadium.

A jubilant Jeremy Perbet scored in the 82nd minute to cement a 2-2 draw after Gent led 1-0 on aggregate courtesy of its performance in the reverse fixture.

Dele Alli's first sending off was coupled with Harry Kane's first-half own goal to cancel out Christian Eriksen's deft opener as Spurs self-inflicted opening stanza was too much to recover from.

That's now six losses to go with two draws and a scant pair of victories in Tottenham's last 10 matches in European competition, including just one win at Wembley in a half-dozen attempts this season and one of its last eight.

Spurs may very well live to regret plans to play all of their home fixtures next season at Wembley as the north London lot await the completion of construction of a new ground.

If Maurico Pochettino's squad was looking to build on a weekend FA Cup win over Fulham, it certainly showed an impetus to do so. The Argentine's side dominated Gent in nearly every statistical category, outshooting the Belgians 25-6 while creating 19 chances to Gent's three.

Still, it wasn't to be as Tottenham fails to advance beyond the last-32 stage of Europe's second tier competition for the second time in three attempts.
