Nets deal Bogdanovic to Wizards for Nicholson, pick

The Washington Wizards have stocked up in advance of a likely return to the postseason.

Washington traded Andrew Nicholson, Marcus Thornton, and a 2017 lottery protected first-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday for shooting guard Bojan Bogdanovic and Chris McCullough, as initially reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

The Nets reportedly plan to waive Thornton, bringing their roster to 14 players.

Bogdanovic gives the Wizards another sharpshooter on the wing to pair with Otto Porter. The 27-year-old Croatian is averaging 14.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting 36 percent from the field.

Washington will likely lean on Bogdanovic for a much-needed dose of bench scoring.

The Nets also get what they want in the trade. The first-round pick helps restock Brooklyn's empty coffers in the wake of the disastrous trade with Boston, while Nicholson could round into a decent bench power forward with range.

This deal also leaves Washington with a decision for the summer, since Bogdanovic is slated to become a restricted free agent. The Wizards will likely brush against the luxury tax if they retain Porter, thus making retaining Bogdanovic an expensive proposition.
