Report: Lakers finalizing deal to make Rob Pelinka new GM
The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly finalizing a multi-year agreement that would make agent Rob Pelinka their next general manager, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Pelinka has represented some of the game's biggest stars, including Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, MVP candidate James Harden, former MVP Kevin Durant, Andre Iguodala, Chris Bosh, and Carlos Boozer, to name a few.
The Kobe connection is an intriguing one, given that newly minted team president Magic Johnson once said that his first call - if given control of the Lakers - would be to Bryant.
Pelinka has already received an endorsement from one of his clients, as Sixth Man of the Year candidate, Eric Gordon, told the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen that he expects "nothing but good things" from the former agent. "He knows basketball."
Wojnarowski reported earlier that the Lakers originally wanted Warriors general manager and former NBA Executive of the Year, Bob Myers, to take over Los Angeles' GM duties, with USA Today's Sam Amick adding that super agent Arn Tellem, Portland general manager Neil Olshey, and former Cavaliers GM Chris Grant could emerge as candidates to fill the Lakers' front office.
