Top WR prospect John Ross says he ran 4.3-second 40-yard dash

If John Ross isn't already locked in as a first-round pick, next week's NFL Scouting Combine could take care of that.

The dynamic Washington wide receiver, who's widely considered to be one of the fastest players in this year's draft, told Emily Kaplan of The MMQB that he ran a laser-timed 40-yard dash of 4.3 seconds last week.

Only seven players have run the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds or under since 2006. Last year's top receiver time was a 4.31-second run from Will Fuller, an eventual first-round pick of the Houston Texans.

Straight-line speed is, of course, only one piece of the puzzle as teams evaluate prospects. Such a time would all but confirm the elite athleticism Ross demonstrated at Washington, though, likely giving him more than enough upside to hear his name called on Day 1.

Ross put together the most productive season of his college career as a junior in 2016, hauling in 81 receptions for 1,150 yards and an impressive 17 touchdowns.

Other wide receivers in the first-round mix include Corey Davis of Western Michigan and Mike Williams of Clemson.
