Georgia HC Fox: Maten injury 'serious'

Georgia lost leading scorer Yante Maten not even two minutes into the Bulldogs' game against No. 13 Kentucky.

Remaining on the bench for much of the contest, Maten did not return, and head coach Mark Fox did not sound optimistic after the game.

“Obviously it’s a serious injury. How serious we do not know,” Fox said, according to Seth Emerson of DawgNation. “But it would’ve been nice to have him.”

Maten got tangled up with Kentucky's Iasiah Briscoe just 95 seconds into the game, putting the Bulldogs shorthanded, though J.J. Frazier took over, almost providing the upset by himself, scoring 36 points.

“If there’s any risk he won’t play,” Fox said of Maten. “Obviously it’s a significant injury. But we won’t know until we get the images how bad it is. Until then, we’ll pray for him.”

Maten leads the Bulldogs with 19.4 points per game and is second in rebounding, with 7.2 boards per contest.
