Non-league Lincoln reaches FA Cup quarters with shock win vs. Burnley

The magic of the FA Cup is alive and well Saturday after fifth-tier Lincoln City shocked Premier League darling Burnley with an 89th-minute Sean Raggett winner, which came courtesy of some listless defending from the Clarets that gifted captain Luke Waterfall a free header.

To the credit of the side 81 rungs behind Burnley, it was a deserved result, as Lincoln City becomes the first non-league side to progress to the last eight of the FA Cup in 103 years when QPR did so in 1914.

It's quite the accomplishment considering Burnley entered the match with the joint-third-most home victories in the top flight, 29 of its 30 points on the season coming at Turf Moor.

Managed by Danny Cowley - with his brother Nicky in support - and led by a plump 32-year-old Matt Rhead at forward, the Imps currently sit top of the National League table, poised for progression to the Football League system. That quest now has a bedfellow in a stunning cup run, with Lincoln City one step from a Wembley semi-final ahead of Sunday's sixth-round draw.

The FA Cup: where dreams really do come true. Just ask Imps hero Raggett, who in 2012 tweeted a prescient statement on Saturday's fixture.
