Report: Blue Jays had preliminary talks about Edwin Jackson

Right-hander Edwin Jackson was once a member of the Toronto Blue Jays for less than 24 hours, though it appears he could make it back north of the border on a more permanent basis.

In their search for depth in the starting rotation, the Blue Jays have had preliminary talks about Jackson, according to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith, who cites a source.

The 33-year-old veteran has played for a whopping 11 teams throughout his career, mostly as a starting pitcher. He was involved in a trade to the Blue Jays in 2011 from the Chicago White Sox, but was quickly sent to St. Louis as part of the Colby Rasmus trade later that same day.

It's not clear if the Blue Jays have made Jackson a contract offer as the team is reportedly in advanced talks with Mat Latos, another free-agent starter.

Throughout his career as a starting pitcher, Jackson has compiled a 88-109 record combining to a 4.67 ERA. He did show some promise as a reliever in 2015 performing to a 3.07 ERA in 47 games with a 1.16 WHIP.
