Cyborg working with USADA, wants de Randamie in Brazil or Anderson
Cris Cyborg is doing everything she can to get back in the saddle.
The 31-year-old featherweight told FOX Sports' Damon Martin she's recovered from her pair of grueling cuts to 140 pounds and that her doctors and legal team are working with the United States Anti-Doping Agency in effort to resolve her ongoing doping case.
"I needed to give my body time to recover from my past two weight cuts. I’ve given my body a proper offseason allowing it to recover and am ready to start training camp soon," Cyborg said.
"My USADA situation is still ongoing and at this time I have no comment, but am hopeful my lawyer and doctors will resolve this and are cooperating fully with USADA."
The Brazilian's team is angling for an exemption from a failed drug test conducted in December. UFC president Dana White recently revealed her case looked promising and that Cyborg could be tapped to fight for the women's featherweight title once she's out of the woods.
The Brazilian watched Germaine de Randamie win the division's inaugural title bout at UFC 208 this past Saturday, but if the newly crowned champion does indeed undergo hand surgery as announced, Cyborg is willing to either sit tight in hopes of challenging her at UFC 212 in Brazil, or return to Invicta FC - where she remains the undisputed 145-pound champion - and unify the featherweight title in a bout with interim champion Megan Anderson.
"I am ready to enter fight camp now. If (de Randamie) is injured and can’t fight I would like a chance to fight Megan Anderson. She is an interim champion for the belt I own and calling out fighters in the UFC.
"It only makes sense if (de Randamie) is not ready to fight that the UFC would offer her a contract and a chance to fight me on the biggest stage, inside the UFC Octagon. I think it would be a great addition to the June event in Rio if she’s ready to fight."
