Xavier's Trevon Bluiett injures ankle in loss to Villanova

Xavier's backcourt could be in extremely dire straits to end the regular season.

Following a 73-57 defeat at the hands of No. 2 Villanova, Musketeers head coach Chris Mack announced that junior guard Trevon Bluiett's status going forward is up in the air after injuring his ankle in the game.

Bluiett exited the contest early, and Mack commented on holding him out for the majority of the second half.

"We just felt like 70 percent or 60 percent of Trevon out there isn't going to be effective. And he didn't want to let his team down. I support the decision. I don't want to put a guy out there that feels like he's playing on one leg. Hopefully he can get treatment and we'll get him back on the court as soon as we possibly can."

Fellow guard Edmond Sumner suffered a season-ending knee injury when he tore his ACL on Jan. 29 against St. John's, meaning a lengthy absence from Bluiett would severely handicap Xavier's backcourt.

Bluiett has averaged 18.7 points, six rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 34.5 minutes this season.
