Hull's Robertson: Referee apologised for missed handball on Sanchez goal

Hull City defender Andy Robertson revealed that referee Mark Clattenburg apologised at halftime of Saturday's match for incorrectly allowing Arsenal's first goal at the Emirates Stadium.

Clattenburg awarded the goal to the hosts despite replays showing the ball hit Alexis Sanchez's arm before bouncing over the line.

There was little protest immediately after the goal, but according to Robertson, Clattenburg later explained himself to Hull players and coaching staff.

"The referee has apologised to us about the first goal because he's seen it was a hand ball," Robertson told reporters, according to Squawka. "He wasn't sure at the time."

Arsenal added a second goal late in the game after another handball incident, as Sam Clucas illegally made contact with the ball in an effort to block Lucas Perez's close-range effort.

Clucas was shown a straight red and Sanchez then doubled Arsenal's lead just minutes before the final whistle sounded.

Earlier in the match, Arsenal winger Theo Walcott was lucky to avoid getting sent off when he threw the ball away out of frustration following a heavy challenge from Hull defender Harry Maguire.

The victory ends Arsenal's two-game slide as the north London outfit moves into third place with 50 points, while Hull City continues to sit at the foot of the Premier League table.
