Houston welcomes veteran Beasley back

Houston Dynamo

Amid an offseason of widespread change, the Houston Dynamo have ensured the presence of at least one familiar face, resigning full-back DaMarcus Beasley to a reported one-year deal.

The Dynamo announced the deal Friday with a statement on the club's official website, adding that the 34-year-old 124-time capped U.S. international is expected to join up with the squad for preseason training.

After spending the last three campaigns at the BBVA Compass Stadium, Beasley is slated for the longest spell with one club in a lengthy career since cutting his first-team teeth with the Chicago Fire from 2000-04.

The only American male to play in four World Cups, Beasley started 24 matches last season for the Dynamo, scoring one goal in a road stalemate against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

"I feel that DaMarcus is the best left back in the country, and he not only has experience but also has a great level of talent," Dynamo boss Wilmer Cabrera offered. "He can continue to bring that level to the team and to his teammates, and he’s motivated to do that. We’re really excited to have him back, and hopefully he starts to have an impact on the field and off of it right away."

The Dynamo will appreciate any help they can get after finishing rock bottom of the Western Conference last season on 34 points, joint-worst for victories with the Fire (7). Houston kicks off its season March 4 when Beasley and company host the Seattle Sounders.
