Patriots' Hightower to skip White House trip: 'Been there, done that'

New England Patriots linebacker Dont'a Hightower is the latest member of the Super Bowl champions to opt out of visiting the White House, though it appears he's not doing so for political reasons.

Hightower said Wednesday on "SportsCenter" that he won't be joining his teammates on the customary trip, but that it's not specifically because of President Donald Trump, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.

"Been there, done that," said Hightower, according to Reiss, with the linebacker noting he didn't make the White House trip when the Patriots won the Super Bowl two years ago, but did so when Alabama won a national title.

Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett and safety Devin McCourty have stated their intentions to skip the visit, both citing issues with President Trump and his policies.
