Barcelona holds off Atletico to reach 4th consecutive Copa del Rey final

Barcelona has reached a fourth consecutive Copa del Rey final despite three red cards and Atletico Madrid's feisty play on a combative evening at Camp Nou.

Sharpshooter Luis Suarez scored the decisive goal and was sent off towards the end of a manic semi-final second leg that finished 1-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate for Barcelona.

Suarez, along with fellow culprit Sergi Roberto, will miss the May 27 showpiece because of the dismissal.

Atletico made things as difficult as possible after a spirited first half.

But it was Suarez who did the damage before the interval, following up a Lionel Messi rebound for his 23rd goal of the campaign.

Both Barcelona and Atletico went down a man early in the second stanza, with Roberto and Yannick Ferreira Carrasco sent off, and that's when tempers began to flare.

Antoine Griezmann appeared to level the match when he beat the Barcelona defence and slipped a cool ball past goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.

However, the linesman wrongly ruled the play offside, as Griezmann was in line with Gerard Pique.

Atletico had another chance when Kevin Gameiro earned a penalty in the 80th minute, but the Frenchman skied the spot-kick above the crossbar.

Gameiro found the back of the net three minutes later for what could have been the third goal in a potential comeback victory.

Instead, it was the visitor's only marker in a frustrating outing in which Atletico fired 13 shots to Barcelona's seven.

The home side still didn't escape easily. Suarez drew two yellow cards in the final three minutes to receive his marching orders.

Diego Simeone's men threatened to send the tie into extra time, but Barcelona saw out the match to book a date with either Celta Vigo or Alaves.

Alaves hosts Celta Vigo on Wednesday after last week's 0-0 draw.
