Cousins picks up 16th tech, automatic suspension in dying seconds vs. Bulls

Sergio Estrada / USA TODAY Sports

Last time Dwyane Wade sunk the Sacramento Kings with a last-second flourish, DeMarcus Cousins waited until he was in the tunnel to take out his frustration on a garbage can. On Monday night, he couldn't hold it in, and earned himself an unpaid vacation.

After failing to get a whistle on a last-ditch 3-point attempt - a possession after Wade had gotten away with grabbing his jersey on his game-clinching steal-and-slam - Cousins threw a tantrum to pick up his second technical foul of the game and his 16th of the season, triggering an automatic one-game suspension.

Unless he has one of those techs rescinded, he'll serve the suspension Wednesday night when the Kings play the Celtics in Boston. It's safe to say neither of the ones he picked up Monday will be called back. The first one saw him shove Bulls assistant coach Jim Boylen, and the second saw Cousins effectively beg to get T'd up and tossed.

It all came after the Kings had made a rousing comeback, erasing a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to tie the game with 30 seconds left, whipping the Golden One Center crowd into a frenzy two nights after the Kings faithful had watched their team topple the Golden State Warriors. Cousins had tied it with an and-1 layup, and his free throw would've given the Kings their first lead of the game. He missed it, and it was all downhill from there.
